RE: location of ac in the TT

I have noticed some TT ac's are ducted thru the floor and some not .. free blow from the inside ceiling of the TT, which one has the best results regarding heating and cooling the trailer ? thanks, wolfieAre you sure you have seen TTs with floor vented A/C? I suggest they are few and far between.
Floor vents are usually connected to the furnace for heat.
A/C, as others have said, may just be one central large duct direct from the A/C unit itself, or through ducts to outlets in the ceiling throughout the trailer. My current fiver has the ceiling ducts for the A/C and it cools the whole trailer quite evenly.
Heat is through the floor ducts. No connection between the two systems

RE: towing questions

The GVWR has very little to do with the truck's towing capacity. GVWR is the maximum weight of the truck and all of it's cargo - that's the cargo being supported on the truck's own axles.
A trailer has it's own axles that carry it's weight. There is a seperate "Towing capacity" for your Tahoe. That number is the one you need to be concerned with.
Careful Jim, the trailer axles DO NOT carry all the trailer weight. The trailer will add 10 to 15% of its loaded weight to the truck via the hitch (aka tongue weight). The truck needs to be able to handle that within its GVWR. Very often a trailer that is within the truck's tow capacity WILL load the truck over GVWR and often, which is a lot more serious, over its RAWR.

RE: towing questions

There are several limits provided by the manufacturer as to what they think you should tow:
GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight rating) of the Tow Vehicle. This is the number you will find on the label inside your driver's door. It represents the maximum the Manufacturer rates the vehicle to weigh fully loaded, (including weight on the hitch from a trailer). Some folks say you can ignore this number. I tend to disagree, but a few pounds (NOT a few hundred pounds!!!) over will not break your truck.RAWR- Rear axle weight rating. Maximum load you should put on your rear axle. Usually limited by the tires. This limit is enforceable BY LAW. This number is also on the door label.GCWR (Gross Combination Weight rating) is the maximum weight recommended for your total rig (Truck plus trailer). Exceeding this rating will excessively load your drivetrain and will result in a poor towing experience, especially uphill. You should find this number in your owners manual. It is NOT on the truck.
OK, so start by loading up your truck as you plan to travel. Then weigh it. That number is the truck Gross vehicle Weight or GVW. This is an actual number, not a rating.
Deduct that GVW from the GVWR - that is how much tongue weight you can load on it with a trailer.
Then deduct the GVW from the GCWR. That is the maximum your LOADED trailer should weigh ready to travel. But watch out for that tongue weight which may be as much as 15% of the weight of the trailer.
Hope that helps
Good luck.

RE: Phaeton at the Hershey Show

When I was looking for a fiver (around six years ago) I went to a large RV show near Detroit. One dealer who was there had marked his units 25 to 30% OVER MSRP so he could give a special "show discount" that simply brought the price back down to full MSRP.
Anyone not knowing their prices could have fallen into that trap.
(Same dealer appears to be close to going broke right now based on some other posts that have been made recently in regard to the outstanding loan on a trade not being paid off. Doesn't hurt my feelings any at all!).

RE: 5th Wheel hitch and TV questions

Can I leave the tailgate on the truck while pulling with this set up?Unless your fiver has an extended pin-box it shouldn't be an issue. I leave mine on no problem.
7-way receptacle inside the box- yup, a lot neater and no cable hanging over the tailgate. Mine is in the sidewall, left rear corner of the box. Easy to get to with the tailgate down.
Check to see if your truck has the camper wiring option, if it does the wires are already there to hook a second receptacle to.
The harness, in plastic tubing, will be coiled up on top of the frame, driver's side, between cab and box. All you have to do is pull it to the back of the truck and feed it to your new connection. A small access panel at the left rear corner of the truck wheelhouse is removable so you can get in there.

RE: Wiring harness for brake controllers

Don't think the Prodigy (or P3) will accept the Jordan plug. Your choices:
1) Chop the existing harness and butt splice the pigtail from the new controller into it.
2) As your 2007 is the "Classic" bodystyle, spend $12-$15 and buy a new harness that will plug into your fuse block and the new controller. Plug and play!
Good luck.

RE: AVG outage??

Been failing for me the last 3 days. Just failed again (9:48am Friday). Two separate computers so it has to be their server.
Maybe the "free" days are over:h
OK - Edit. Updated successfully at 12:23 Eastern time. Took three tries though!

RE: Where to tell tire shop to jack.

I'll keep right on jacking under my spring/U-bolt plate thank you. Why? 'Coz I'd rather lift my trailer an inch or two than the foot it needs to take all the weight off the springs before the wheel lifts off the ground.
Always done it this way and have never had a problem, even on the side of I75 when I had a flat (before the new tires!).

RE: plug broke off in water heater...

forgot to mention... whats left in the threaded area is actually hollow...i'm thinking mabe a chisel?Good chance you'd wreck the threads in the WH and the new plug will leak.
I like the hot screwdriver idea myself.
Perhaps even lift up one edge of the remnant with the hot blade. This should loosen it enough to unscrew all the way.

RE: Is there going to be a flip-flop?

The cost difference in the US that's happened lately is due to the extra expense of ULSD refining compared to LSD. But Mike, we were promised that ULSD would cost only 7ยข/gal at the MAXIMUM.:R

RE: 30 amp---50 amp---

You use what the cord on your trailer is designed for.
Most have a 30A plug which will connect to a 30A power outlet or ONE SIDE ONLY of a 50A outlet using the appropriate adapter. Service is still limited to 30A by the power panel in the trailer. Your power limit is 3600 watts.
A 50A service is really TWO 110V 50A connections with a common neutral, which will provide up to 12,000 watts of power to units designed to handle it.
And yes, a 50A service is a good idea if you have two A/C units, otherwise you end up running one or the other.

RE: Superglide Quick Connect Plate Install

Yup, that's all you need. Most of the turning load is taken up where the plate goes around your trailer pin. The single bolt is there to stop the plate rotating or falling off when you are not hooked up to the truck.
Good luck, enjoy your new trailer and the Superglide.

RE: Where to tell tire shop to jack.

I think I would stay quiet if I were you. If they screw it up, they fix it. If they screw it up on your say so, you fix it!
And,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, they are the experts are they not?
Do you tell your surgeon where to make the incision?Good point, but if they try to jack in the middle of the axles I think I would have a hard time keeping my mouth shut. Don't know about you but I don't need the aggravation (and wasted time) of the repair shop deciding what to do about it if they mess up and bend my axles.
Big difference between telling them where to jack and intervening when they get it wrong.
When I removed my wheels at home, the spring/axle "U" bolt plate was where I jacked. I figure that's where the weight is anyway and the rest of the trailer wouldn't know the difference.
And if I was going in for surgery on my left knee and they put a big "X" on my right one, I'd be sure to let 'em know about it!

RE: Run over by security guard at outdoor resorts park indio ca.

Well, on May 10th he was looking for somewhere to stay in Gunnison Co:h
That post is here, so none of this makes any sense to me either.
I think mod was right to lock the last one, pending more substantiation. I suspect that has not been received.

RE: 7 thousand dollar brake repair. Be careful when you buy.

We were still unhappy with the brakes, but after a long discussion with the sales manager and the service department, they convinced us the the ABS brakes were different and did not stop as fast as regular brakes. What a load of BS!
Other than on gravel roads it has been proved time and again that ABS brakes will stop you faster as they hold each individual wheel at the point of lockup which is max braking effort. Better than in a locked wheel situation. And better than the driver can do as he cannot adjust for the coefficient of friction at each wheel like ABS does.
Don't know if you are now in CA or FL but you need some State DOT/Consumer agency intervention or similar. An affadavit from the Cat dealer that the brakes were defective and no way they could have got that way since you bought the unit would help.

RE: Electrical HELP needed

Lights and water pump do not need you to be plugged in. They are 12 volts DC and they only need a charged and connected battery.
Make sure your battery is charged, that the disconnect (if you have one) is not disconnected and that you haven't blown any fuses.
Your A/C should work if your outlets are live - check for a tripped breaker on your fuse box.

RE: Chevy 1500 5.3 or 6.0

That really depends on your definition of better!
Better power - the 6.0L
Better mileage - the 5.3L
Was the 6.0L even available in the 1500, or were you looking at a 1500HD? That would make a world of difference in what you can carry and tow.

RE: Trade in horror story

Ah yes, Walt Michaels. Dealt with them once - never again! Won't lose ANY sleep if they go under, but I hope you get this straightened out first.
Does your contract say they will pay off your trade? If so, take that to your local Secretary of State office and your loaning bank and ask them to lift the lien against you and transfer it to the dealer.
Failing that - see a lawyer. One lawyer's letter to the dealer should raise you up his priority list! (And you want reimbursement of the cost of the lawyer too)
Good luck.

RE: plan to buy truck out state

What if OP had a set of PA plates that could be attached to the truck at the time of sale?
Don't know if PA allows you to do that and notify them within "X" days of sale etc.
How about a temp tag from PA instead of CA?
Just a thought.
What is OP?Sorry - Forum abbreviations! OP = Original Poster; in this case YOU:B.
